Help

Marsden Help is coordinated by the volunteer board of Marsden Grocery Community Benefit Society Ltd, with two freelance support workers and the staff and volunteers of The Village Green.

Marsden Help Update 18/09/2020

We wanted to thank everyone for their support and to update you all on the work that Marsden Help has been doing, and our plans for the future.

We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the people of Marsden expressed in financial and food donations.

During the last 22 weeks Marsden Help has
• Hired 2 part time workers to coordinate and carry out the support
• Leafleted the entire village with our offer of help and how to support us
• Delivered 572 food parcels helping on average 50 people per week
• Made 52 ‘Friendly ‘Phone calls
• Carried out 49 assisted shops (shopping for people from the village and supermarkets who cannot get out)
• Collected 48 prescriptions
• Delivered 54 donated posies of flowers
• Delivered donated clothes, toys and household goods to families
• Sourced dog & cat food for owners who are shielding
• Linked households with a local milk delivery service
• Linked families to the Uniform Exchange
• Passed on bottled water, milkshakes and biscuits to Marsden Infant & Nursery School, Marsden Junior School and Nields Primary School for the staff, children of key workers and vulnerable pupils
• Redistributed 1400 Easter Eggs from the National Trust throughout the village
• Shared food which we have collected from the Real Junk Food Project with all the Mutual Aid Groups in the Colne Valley

Future Plans

We anticipate that the need for help will continue because the virus has not gone away and it will continue to impact on people’s health and well-being. As the furlough scheme comes to an end and the economic impact bites we are aware that more people will find themselves in financial difficulty. We are working with Colne Valley Anchor Group to maintain and develop support systems throughout the Valley so that we are available to respond to these needs.
